11 carte de visite photographs of the Maling Family of Christchurch New Zealand circa 1870's. I found some information of the family members, they are as follows;
1) Henry Bromley Maling of Christchurch. He was born 1864 and died in 1946. Photograph by Foster & Martin Melbourne. It has paper stuck on the back and some marking. It is 9.3cm x 6.3cm across.
2) Anne Elizabeth Maling was born in 1867 at Worcestershire England. She was the daughter of Thomas James Maling and Rosa Haprper. Photograph by Spanton, West Suffolk. It has tears/creasing to the top. She is 4 1/2 yrs old and it is dated March 1871. In total it is 10.3cm x 6.3cm across.
3) Harriette Ruth Maling 1878-1954 possibly known as Ettie? (later Knight), daughter of Thomas and Rosa Maling. dated Dec12th 1879. photographer Nelson K Cherrill Christchurch. In total it is 10.3cm x 6.3cm across. The Ettie Maling label pictured with another photograph in this lot I have just worked out goes with this photograph.
4) Ettie Maling (possibly the same person as the previous photograph), dated Dec12th 1898. photographer Standish & Preece Christchurch. In total it is 8.4cm x 5.7cm across.
5) Ella (Eleanor Howard) Tripp 1868-1930 from South Canterbury New Zealand, photographer Enid Wigram London, in operation 1899-1904. In total it is 11cm x 6.3cm across.
6) listed in albumn as George Harper ? - probably Sir George Harper 1843-1937. Barrister, explorer and early settler, of Christchurch. Husband of Agnes Margaret Harper/Loughnan. Received the OBE in 1918 for services in connection with Citizen's Defence Corps. Knighted on 12 March 1937. Photographed by Ferranti, Liverpool. In total it is 10.5cm x 6.5cm across.
7) circa 1880 Henry W. Harper, Archdeacon and Canon of Christchurch Cathedral, and Vicar of St. Mary's, Timaru, Diocese of Christchurch, New Zealand. There is an interesting book online by Harper titled - Harper, H. W. Letters from New Zealand, 1857--1911. London, 1914.

8) Rosa Maling 1836-1922 (wife of Thomas Maling and daughter of Reverend Henry John Chitty) and Alice Ellen Maling (daughter of Rosa and Thomas Maling ) 1865-1940. Photograph by Down & Son dated 1866 (probably UK). In total 10.1cm x 6.3cm across.
9) Thomas James Maling (1836-1922), an importer and merchant, built his home on this land in 1863, naming it Abberley. He was the only son of Admiral Maling of Abberley, Worcestershire. Dtaed 1879. Photograph by Nelson K Cherrill of Christchurch New Zealand. In total 9.5cm x 6.2cm across.
